Description
West Bradford Golf Club House is a former small manor or substantial farmhouse that dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century. The main house was rebuilt on a large scale in the mid 18th century, with further extensions and changes to the windows around 1840, when the property seems to have been divided. It is a two-storey building constructed of coursed gritstone, with thin sandstone bricks used for later additions, and features stone slate roofs.
The earliest surviving section, located off-centre to the east, has large gritstone ground and a weathered string course above the ground floor, along with a blocked chamfered reveal basket handle arched doorway. The mid 18th century part of the house has three bays, with evenly laid flush quoins and saddlestones with kneelers at the gable ends. The eastern bay is either a rebuild or an addition made during the window renovations, featuring two tall square mullion windows from around 1840-1850. Above this section, which appears to be original and has a ball finialed parapet, is an oval window set in a plain squared ashlar surround.
The older section retains an early 19th century three-light square mullion window. At the rear, there are some earlier windows, including a two-light chamfered mullion window and a single block cut circular window in the older part. The outshut and rear of the main house have four-light mullioned windows from the 18th century. Additionally, there is a late 19th or early 20th century clubroom added in sandstone brick to the west, making this an interesting vernacular complex.
