Description
Lloyds Bank, built in 1880 by architects Milnes and France, is a three-storey building with an attic, constructed from sandstone ashlar. It is a simplified version of their 1885 design for the Kirkgate/Cheapside bank. The building features only slight Italianate details, with pilasters that define the single and paired window bays on each floor as the dominant architectural element. The ground floor pilasters are rusticated, and the windows between them are divided and flanked by additional pilasters. Each floor has an entablature, and the main eaves cornice is supported by pairs of fluted consoles that align with the pilasters. There are two pedimented dormers and a splayed one-window corner that includes a pilastered doorway. The building has a blind return to Piece Hall Yard, which features similar detailing to the front.
