Description

This is a row of four cottages, numbered 8 to 11, dating to around 1820 and built before Buttershaw Mill. The cottages are constructed of large sandstone "bricks" and feature block brackets supporting the wood gutter eaves. The roofs are covered with stone slates, with saddlestones to the gable ends and large rectangular kneelers. Originally, the cottages had two- or three-light square mullion windows above doorways, with a single light above the doorway. Number 11 retains its original mullions; all windows are flush framed. The doorways are deeply set and have cornice hoods supported by shaped plain brackets.
