Description
Ashgate House is a house dating from the early to mid 19th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with a watershot finish on the east elevation, and features a stone slate roof with terracotta ridge tiles. The building has two storeys and an irregular plan that includes two parallel ranges and an additional range at right angles to the south.
The main entrance is marked by a doorway that has a doorcase and an open pediment above a fan-light. The windows are sashed, with raised plain stone surrounds and projecting sills. The west end of the house has raised quoined angles. On the east elevation, there is a doorway with tie-stone jambs to the left of a tall stair-window that has small paned glazing. The house also features three lateral stacks and one additional stack, all topped with hipped roofs.
