Description
Birks Farmhouse is an early to mid 18th century farmhouse that has undergone some later alterations. It is a two-storey building constructed of thin sandstone "brick" with flush quoins. The north front has been refaced in crazed stone, and it features a stone slate roof with gable ends that include saddlestones and sawn, coped kneelers. On the north front, there are two windows on both floors, consisting of three-light square mullions set in older recessed surrounds. The left-hand window on the first floor retains chamfered mullions, while the center features a large square mullion-transomed stair light. There is a lean-to entrance on the east side. The south elevation remains relatively unaltered, showcasing two-light square mullion windows that were originally four lights in recessed surrounds. There is a blind Bull's eye framed window on the right side of the first floor, and on the ground floor, a window with paired arched lights divided by a chamfered mullion. The interior has been altered but still retains a section of a panelled partition and an early 18th century stone fireplace.
