Description
This building, located immediately to the north of the present Home Farmhouse at Esholt Hall Home Farm, dates from 1691 and is a well-preserved example of a West Yorkshire farmhouse. It has been unoccupied for many years. The structure is two stories high, constructed of coursed gritstone with large irregular quoins, and features a stone slate roof with saddlestones and moulded kneelers. A central chimney stack with moulded capping is present.
The entrance aligns with the chimney stack and has moulded jambs, topped by a very elaborate ogee arched lintel inscribed with "3 over IE 1691." The ground floor includes a four-light and a six-light chamfered mullioned window, both beneath a long drip mould with carved stops that extend over the windows and doorway. On the first floor, there are two five-light chamfered mullion windows flanking a three-light window. The north gable end features two three-light windows and a two-light window in the gable, all equipped with drip moulds. The rear east elevation has similar mullioned windows, some of which are partly blocked, but still retain fragments of early glazing and remnants of wrought iron casements.
Inside, the building remains largely intact, showcasing a massive bressumer over the fireplace, heavy stop-chamfered ceiling beams, and studded partitions, although it is in poor condition.
