Description
Numbers 1 to 9 (odd) and the barn adjoining number 1 are an early 19th century row of stepped cottages made from thin sandstone bricks. Number 1 now combines two cottages, and the barn, which is dated 1836, is attached to it. The buildings feature stone slate roofs, and the gable end of number 9 has a saddlestone. There are corniced chimneys and single and two-light square mullion windows set in squared surrounds, with similar windows at the rear. The doorways have squared jambs. The barn next to number 1 has two windows on both the ground and first floors, flanking a segmental voussoir archway topped with a triangular dovecote. There is a moulded stone eaves cornice. This group is included for its interest as an early 19th century vernacular collection.
