Description

Goddard Hall is a house that is now part of the Northern General Hospital, built in the early 19th century with later alterations in the 19th and mid-20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with rendered and roughcast returns, and features an ashlar front, a slate roof, and two gable and one ridge coped rendered stacks. It has a plinth, a first-floor band, and a moulded eaves cornice. The structure is two storeys plus garrets and has a five-window range arranged in an L-plan, with the two left windows on each floor more closely spaced. The windows include five 12-pane sashes on the ground floor and five 6-pane sashes above. The central doorcase is flanked by engaged Greek Doric columns and a cornice, but the door has been altered to form a boarded-up window. There are two boarded-up windows on each side of the door. The right return features a short rear wing with a tall glazing bar stair window, alongside a similar blocked window to the left and a blocked door with a moulded surround below. The left return has a plain sash window on the first floor and a central plain sash window in the garret. The interior was not inspected, and the building was vacant and boarded up at the time of the survey.
