Description

Abbey Grange Nursing Home and the adjoining former stable entrance is a house that has been converted into a nursing home, originally built in the late 18th century with mid-19th century additions. The building is constructed of ashlar stone and features a hipped slate roof, with two multiple side wall stacks and two similar ridge stacks, all made of ashlar. It has a plinth, a first-floor band, a sill band, and moulded eaves.

The structure is three storeys high and has a three-window range on the south front. This front includes two three-storey canted bay windows with plain sash windows on the lower floors and smaller 20th-century casements above. The central bay features single windows and a stone doorcase with a pediment supported by Corinthian columns, a 20th-century door, and an overlight. All windows are adorned with double keystones, while the side windows have plain lintels.

On the right side, there are three plain sash windows on each floor, with the left side being blank. Adjacent to this is a mid-19th century two-storey hipped addition that has two windows, pilastered first floor, and two blank elliptical arches, with the left arch containing a plain sash window. The left side of the building has four plain sash windows on each floor, with the right side being blank.

To the left, the former stable entrance, now serving as the entrance and reception area, features three elliptical arches with an impost band. The central arch has 20th-century glazed doors, while the outer arches have single windows. The upper storey is a 20th-century addition topped with a hipped tile roof.

Inside, there is a dogleg cantilevered stone staircase with iron stick balusters and a ramped, scrolled handrail.
