Description

The Sheffield City Council Sport and Development Section District Office, formerly known as the combined lodge and pavilion to Firth Park, is a lodge and pavilion that now serves as offices. It was built in the mid-19th century and features squared dressed stone with ashlar dressings and gabled and hipped slate roofs, along with three side wall and a single ridge stone stacks. The building is designed in an L-plan and includes a plinth and a string course on the lodge.

The lodge is two storeys tall and has a three-window range, with a projecting center that features a round-headed plain sash window with a bracketed sill beneath a pedimented gable. On either side of this central feature are single plain sash windows. The central round-headed doorway is adorned with a keystone and has a moulded six-panel door with an overlight, flanked by paired round-headed sash windows with shafts.

The four-stage square tower is notable for its string courses, bracketed eaves, and pyramidal roof. The first stage includes slit vents, while the second stage features a round-headed sash window on three sides. The third stage has a clock set within a keystoned architrave, and the pilastered fourth stage has openings on each side with a central pier and metal grille.

To the left of the lodge is an open-fronted pavilion that has a plinth with iron railings and wooden posts supported by cast-iron brackets. Under the canopy of the pavilion, there are three glazing bar windows and two double doors with overlights, all featuring round heads. The cross-wing to the left includes two round-headed sashes in the gables and three similar margin light sashes in the left return. The interior has not been inspected.
