Description

This range of outbuildings, which includes Revell Grange Cottage and a link building, is located approximately 20 metres to the west of Revell Grange. The structures date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The barn features hammer-dressed gritstone and a stone slate roof, while the coach-houses are constructed from deeply coursed, dressed gritstone with 20th-century concrete-tiled roofs. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of three adjoining blocks that step down the slope. At the uphill end, to the right, a link block connects to the left return of Revell Grange.

The barn has tall cart entrances on the right and in the centre, both with board doors and keyed basket arches, as well as a door at the downhill left end. There are regular slit vents for the hayloft, and the left return has vents and a pigeon hole at the apex. The link block, which projects from the front right of the barn, shows two distinct builds indicated by central quoins. It features two doors on the left in quoined surrounds, a large part-blocked opening to the right of centre, and two further 20th-century doors to the right. Above is a two-light square-faced mullion window with casements, along with a single leaded-light window to the right.

To the left of the barn, set lower, is a former coachhouse that is now a house. It has a part-blocked coach entrance (now with two windows) featuring quoined reveals and a two-stone keyed basket arch to the left. There are also inserted 20th-century garage doors to the right beneath a concealed girder, a central ground floor window, and three first floor windows, all with square-faced surrounds and 20th-century casements. The left end of this roof is hipped. Further to the left, set lower, is another block with a similar coach entrance to the right (blocked). The left return of this end block has two 20th-century casements on each floor in the original openings, with a central eaves stack and a hipped roof. There are 20th-century extensions to the rear of the coachhouses, which are not of special interest. The buildings are included mainly for their group value.
