Description
The Sewer Gas Destructor Lamp, built in 1924 by the Webb Lamp Company in Birmingham, is a Grade II listed structure made of cast iron and glass. It features a cast-iron, fluted round column with a bulged foot and two projecting ladder rests. The round pedestal includes a moulded plinth and two moulded panels on opposite sides, which are inscribed vertically with "WEBB LAMP CO. / LIMITED / BIRMINGHAM" and "J E WEBBS PATENT / SEWER GAS / DESTRUCTOR." The conical lantern is designed with four curved glass panels and has a cast-iron domed cap, which is topped by a valve with a finial that ends in a crescent shape. At the time of the survey, the lamp was complete and in working condition.
