Description
The building at Pot House Farm, adjoining the farmhouse to the north, is a late 17th-century glass house that has been altered and is now used as a farm building. It is constructed of hammer-dressed gritstone with a stone slate roof and consists of a single range with two storeys.
On the farmyard side, there is a large blocked round arch with voussoirs that rises from ground level to eaves level. Beneath the arch, there is a part-blocked door to the right, a window to the left, and a boarded pitching hole above. To the right of the arch, there is a board door, and to the left, there are two other doors in quoined surrounds with a square pitching hole above.
On the rear side, there is a large segmental archway to the left, with springers set on quoined reveals, which does not reach the eaves. To the left of this archway, there is a blocked window with a heavy square-faced surround. To the right, there are the ruinous remains of an external kiln structure.
This site is known as Bolsterstone Glasshouse, which is documented to have operated from the mid-17th century under various ownerships. It was converted into a pot manufactory in the mid-18th century when former employees established the Catcliffe Glass Works. A taller barn is attached to the left, and a house is attached to the front right corner, neither of which are of special interest.
