Description

Nos. 9 and 11 on Church Corner are a pair of houses built in the mid-18th century. They are constructed from rubble magnesian limestone and feature stone slate eaves courses beneath a pantile roof. The buildings have large projecting quoins and are two storeys high with five bays.

No. 9 occupies three bays on the left and has a central six-panelled door set in a stone architrave, flanked by casement windows in two-light square-faced, mullioned surrounds. No. 11, on the right, has a similar window on the left side next to a later lean-to addition, which is not of special interest, and a door located in its left return. There is a first-floor band, and bay three features an architraved single-light window, while the other windows match those on the ground floor. The houses have an eaves cornice, shaped kneelers, and remnants of roll-moulded gable copings. A large brick ridge stack is situated between bays three and four, with a 20th-century end stack projecting from the left return.

The rear of the houses has mostly been altered, except for a door that has been converted into a window below the ridge stack, which features a moulded ashlar surround. Above this, there is a single-light window with the remains of a sundial above it. The left side has two-light windows similar to those at the front, while the right side has similar windows without a mullion. There are 20th-century additions to the rear of each house that are not of special interest.
