Description
The United Reformed Church, built in 1799, is a single-storey chapel located on Melton High Street in Wath Upon Dearne. It features a cement-rendered exterior and a Welsh slate roof, with a layout comprising three rows of four bays and an addition at the rear. The entrance front has an ashlar plinth and a central round-arched window with glazing bars and sill blocks. Flanking the window are two doorways that lead up two steps to 20th-century double doors with overlights. These doorways are supported by part-fluted Doric columns, topped with triglyph friezes and mutule cornices. A band runs along the first floor, and the gallery's casement windows have projecting sills, while shaped wooden brackets support the hipped roof.
On the left side of the building, there are four tall, round-arched windows with projecting sills, an impost band, and a plain archivolt. Inside, the church features a gallery at the entrance end with a panelled balustrade, an impost band along the side windows, and a modillion cornice. The interior is further enhanced by an impressive reredos designed as a Doric serliana, along with pine box pews and a panelled dado.
