Description
The gatepiers and attached wing walls at Roundhouse Lodge date from the late 18th century and are likely the work of James Paine for the Sandbeck estate. They are constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar. The structure features a pair of large gate piers, each with a plinth supporting a rusticated shaft. Above the shaft is a band beneath a pedimented frieze block adorned with paterae, and each pier is topped with ribbed cups that hold pineapple finials. The wing walls continue from the plinth of each pier, rising to three-quarters of the height of the shafts and featuring ashlar copings. The attached lodge is not considered to be of special interest.
