Description
A row of seven cottages located at 2-14 Main Street, built in the early to mid-19th century and constructed in three phases. The cottages are made of coursed, dressed sandstone with Welsh slate roofs and are two stories high. The first floor features five windows across, while the right-hand range is lower.
Cottages 8-14 on the left have single outer doorways and paired inner doorways, each with various part-glazed doors set in bonded, dressed stone surrounds with deep lintels. There are external stone steps leading to cottages 8, 10, and 12. Each cottage has projecting stone sills beneath the casement windows on both floors, all featuring glazing bars except for cottage 8. Cottage 10 has a horizontally-sliding sash window on the ground floor with an additional casement above the door. Ridge stacks are positioned above the party walls.
Cottages 2-6 on the right are styled similarly, with doors located to the left of the windows on each floor. Cottage 6 features old horizontally-sliding sashes, while cottage 4 has an extra casement above the door. Cottage 2, which is of a later build, is double-fronted with a door flanked by tall casement windows on each floor. There are two brick ridge stacks and an end stack at the far right. The row is included for its group value, with cottage 2 noted as part of the overall row.
