Description
The gatepiers, gates, and garden walls to the administration block of St Catherine's Hospital are early 19th century structures, likely designed by John Clark, who also designed the house. Made from ashlar and wrought iron, they form a roughly U-shaped layout that encloses three sides of a garden. The walls are approximately 2 feet high, except at the corners and alongside the gates, where they are embattled. The gatepiers on the east and west sides feature deep moulded plinths and moulded capitals with brattishing. The gates between the western piers have plain bars with spear head finials, a dog rail, and central rails. The walls are topped with moulded copings. These features are included for their group value.
