Description
The railings at the rear of St James's Church in Doncaster date from the early to mid-19th century and were likely designed by George Gilbert Scott, who also designed the church itself. The railings are made of iron and ashlar and run in a straight line for approximately 40 meters. They are supported by a dwarf wall with chamfered stone copings. The railings feature square-sectioned bars topped with large cusped finials that have pierced quatrefoils, creating a decorative frieze along the top. Some sections of the railings have been replaced with 20th-century versions. This structure is part of a larger complex of buildings financed by the Great Northern Railway for its workers and is included for its group value.
