Description

The entrance features at Wadworth Hall comprise gatepiers and attached walls connecting the East and West lodges. They were likely built in the mid-18th century for Josias Wordsworth of Wadworth Hall. The structure is constructed from ashlar magnesian limestone. The gatepiers are positioned on the central axis of the hall's entrance front, with convex walls on either side. The wall to the left connects to the West Lodge, while the wall on the right terminates at an end pier and then links to the East Lodge. The main piers are square with re-entrant corners, featuring moulded plinths, plain shafts, cornices, and moulded cappings. The low walls have mushroom-domed copings, once ornamented with iron railings. The plain ashlar end pier on the right has a pyramidal top.
