Description
This barn, located immediately to the south-east of Watchley Farmhouse, dates from the late 17th century and was extended and heightened in the early 18th century. It is constructed from rubble limestone and features a stone slate roof. The barn is a tall single-storey building with five internal bays and has large quoins. The earlier section on the left has a blocked, quoined doorway with an arched lintel. The later part on the right has a blocked waggon entrance with a cambered wooden lintel. The barn also has shaped kneelers and gable copings. At the rear, there is a 19th-century waggon entrance with a segmental arch. The left side of the barn shows clear evidence of the heightening of the eaves. Inside, there are collared, principal-rafter trusses. The barn is included for its group value.
