Description
Robin Hood's Well is an ornamental well cover dating from around 1710, which was resited in the 20th century. It was designed by Sir John Vanbrugh for the Earl of Carlisle. The structure is made of ashlar magnesian limestone and sits on a 20th-century concrete base. It has a square, single-celled construction with rusticated arches on three sides. The round arches feature an impost band with pendant keystones, and there is a projecting band above that is topped with two stepped blocking courses. An arched niche is located within the well cover.
