Description

Elm House, located at No. 41 Northgate, dates back to 1701, as indicated by the inscription "D J S 1701". The building features a rendered exterior with ashlar quoins and a hipped pantiled roof that has sprocketed stone slate eaves. It stands two storeys tall and has two bays, with sash windows that include glazing bars. The entrance door is set in a plain chamfered surround. Inside, there is a contemporary staircase with a closed string and vase-shaped balusters, which are flat-cut higher up. At the rear, there is a long wing that is also two storeys but lower in height. This wing is timber-framed, with one post visible from the interior, and the first floor has a plaster floor.
