Description
The piers and railings at the front of the Town Hall, including the steps, were built in 1933 by Briggs and Thornely of Liverpool. They feature square, panelled piers made of Portland stone, dwarf walls, and heavy cast-iron railings. The railings have round fluted bars, square bosses, pineapple finials, and round rails. The corner piers are topped with ornamental cast-iron lamp standards, two of which have early lamp housing. The railings enclose two landscaped areas, with wide flights of stone steps leading to the War Memorial. This structure holds significant townscape value and is included for its group value.
