Description
Round Green Farmhouse is a farmhouse with a core dating from the 16th century, featuring 18th century and early 19th century additions, along with later 19th century alterations. It is constructed of coursed, dressed sandstone with a coated slate roof. The right wing is set back and built of rubble, originally having a stone slate roof that has been replaced by slate and 20th century tiles at the rear. The building has an irregular plan, with an early 19th century four-bay house on the front left that has two storeys and attics, and an earlier wing to the rear left that curves around to the rear right.
The early 19th century section features 16-pane sash windows with projecting sills and lintels that are tooled as voussoirs, along with ashlar end stacks. There is a six-panel door in the right return, which has an overlight and an ashlar surround with a cornice, flanked by 16-pane sashes and a horizontal-sliding sash in the attic. The lower right wing includes a quoined basket archway with a six-pane sash and a tripartite window to the left, featuring two sashes with glazing bars in half-dormers above. There is also a six-pane sash above the arch and to its right, along with a gabled bellcote dated '1843' flanked by ashlar ridge stacks. The rear side has a matching basket archway with a double-chamfered, three-light window and a six-panel door with an overlight to its right, as well as external steps to the left and a quoined rear part of the earlier wing.
Inside, the rear part of the house has a stop-chamfered doorway with a shaped lintel that now links with the early 19th century front range. There are back-to-back ashlar fireplaces with segmental arches and cornices. An exposed wall post is visible in the rear-left wing, along with an exposed king-post truss in the bathroom, which has A-struts and likely dates from the mid-16th century.
