Description

Two boundary stones from the 18th century are located at NGR SE 5923 5075 in York. They are made of limestone and have a rectangular shape with rounded tops, positioned against a wall next to the pavement. The left-hand stone, which is made of magnesian limestone, has no inscription. The right-hand stone, made of brown limestone, features a worn inscription that reads 'The Boundary of Micklegate Stray'. These stones mark the boundary between Micklegate Stray and ancient enclosures to the north, aligning with the former parish boundary between St Mary Bishophill Junior and Holy Trinity Micklegate.
