Description
This house, located at 216 Mount Vale, dates from around 1840 and has undergone some later alterations. It features yellow-brown brick in Flemish bond at the front, which is painted on the ground floor, while the rest of the building is in English garden wall bond. The house has timber bargeboards, brick stacks, and rooflights beneath a slate roof.
The structure is two storeys high with an attic and has a two-window gabled front that projects forward from a single bay to the right. On the left side of the front, there is a projecting porch with moulded panel reveals, deeply recessed panelled double doors, and a boldly modillioned flat cornice. To the right, a canted bay window contains 1-pane sashes framed in shaped mullions and features a vermiculated frieze.
On the first floor, the windows are tall French doors with transoms, topped with modillioned flat cornice hoods, which open onto a continuous flat balcony with a cast-iron balustrade. The attic window is a squat 6-pane sash with a painted sill and a segmental brick arch. The recessed bay to the right has a 6-pane window on the ground floor and a 12-pane sash on the first floor. The interior has not been inspected.
