Description
This is a coffin located approximately 4 metres south of the south door of St Mary's Church. It is said to be of Roman origin and is made from millstone grit. The coffin measures approximately 1.25 metres long, 0.5 metres wide, and 0.25 metres deep. It features a simple design with a chamfered lid. The coffin was discovered in 1838 in a nearby field, as noted in "The Church of St Mary, Askham Richard, Historical Notes."
