Description
No. 19 Grape Lane is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates back to the early 15th century but was raised and refronted in the mid-19th century. There is also a late 17th-century wing at the rear. The building was refitted in 1989 after a fire. It has a timber frame with wall-tile infilling originally, but is now fronted in plastered brick, while the rear is made of orange-grey brick in English garden-wall bond. The wing is constructed of orange-brown brick in stretcher bond, and the roofs are covered with pantiles.
The exterior features a three-storey front with two windows. The ground floor includes a through-passageway beneath a timber lintel on the left. The entrance consists of a 20th-century panelled door set between tapered-headed posts, next to a four-light window with raised and fielded panelled shutters. The first floor has windows with four fixed panes, with one window above the passageway and a pair to the right. The second floor has a two-over-four pane Yorkshire sash window. The wing has a 20th-century door and window leading to the passageway, both topped with elliptical brick arches. There is also a three-over-six pane casement window on the first floor of the gable wall, which features a similar brick arch. Inside, the timber-framed cross wall is visible on the ground and first floors.
