Description

This is a threshing barn located approximately 50 meters north-east of Haldenby Hall, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of red-brown brick in English garden wall bond and features a pantile roof. The barn has a rectangular plan with a through wagon entrance and consists of six internal bays.

On the north side, the entrance bay is positioned to the right of the center and is flanked by pilaster strips. It includes a wagon entrance beneath a timber lintel and an elliptical stretcher brick relieving arch, with a single breather slit above. The side bays each have three tiers of openings: to the right, there are two lower rows of four breather slits, along with a pitching hatch and a pair of slits above; to the left, there is a lower tier of six slits, a central tier featuring a board pitching hatch door on strap hinges, flanked by two slits to the left and three to the right, and an upper tier with a segmental-headed pitching hatch with a recessed board door, flanked by five slits to the right and a single slit to the left. The barn has stepped eaves and tumbled-in brick at the raised gables.

The south side, which is partly obscured by later additions of no special interest, has a similar wagon entrance, door, and pitching hatch to the right, along with a similar arrangement of breathers as on the north side. The west gable end features three tiers of three breather slits (some of which are blocked), a central blocked hatch above, and a hatch in the gable with a board door. The east gable end is similar but has both hatches blocked. The roof consists of six bays with tie beams to the main trusses, intermediate collared principal rafters, and two tiers of staggered butt-purlins.
