Description
Braiton Messuage is a cottage that is now part of a house, dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of brick and has a pantile roof. The building has a two-room plan and stands at two low storeys with two windows on the south side. There is a boarded door in a partly blocked opening to the left of the center, flanked by single 12-pane sliding sash windows. The eaves are stepped, and the raised gables feature tumbled-in brick. A stack is located at the right end of the building. The left gable is partly covered by a later adjoining house that is of no special interest. On the right side, there is a two-light attic window with 20th-century glazing. The rear of the building has a central 19th-century panelled door with a small boarded hatch to the right, and a single 12-pane sliding sash window on the first floor to the right. Inside, the cottage features chamfered spine beams, exposed joists, and inglenook fireplaces.
