Description
The Men of Belton War Memorial is situated at the corner of King Edward Street and High Street in Belton. This memorial features a carved figure of a First World War soldier, complete with webbing and a rifle, wearing a cap and standing on a stone outcrop. The statue is mounted on a square sandstone pillar that has incised and painted names of First World War soldiers, along with a limestone plinth and a stepped base. The inscription on the limestone plinth reads: "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THE MEN OF BELTON WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1918 LEST WE FORGET KIPLING." Additionally, there is a stone-carved book attached to the lower step, which displays "1939 – 1945" and the names of those who fell in the Second World War. The memorial is enclosed by spiked iron railings.
