Description

Fox Farmhouse is a mid-19th century farmhouse built for the Yarborough Estate, with 20th-century additions at the rear. It is constructed of yellow brick in Flemish bond and features a Welsh slate roof. The building has a T-shaped plan, consisting of a central entrance hall on the south front, which leads to a stair hall and a two-room wing at the rear, along with later additions to the right.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with three symmetrical bays. It has a chamfered plinth topped with a course of black bricks. The entrance features a Doric pilastered doorcase with a plain entablature and hood, leading to a half-glazed fielded-panel door set beneath a cornice and plain overlight in a fielded-panel reveal. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows set in reveals with sills and stucco cambered arches. On the first floor, there is an unequal 9-pane central sash flanked by unequal 12-pane sashes, all in similar surrounds. The eaves are adorned with a wooden modillion cornice, and the roof is hipped with axial stacks located on the rear wing.

The left side of the building features a 16-pane ground-floor sash in the front range, a round-headed stair window with glazing bars, and both 9-pane and 12-pane sashes, along with an inserted 4-light casement. Inside, the farmhouse contains an open-well staircase with a ramped handrail and column balusters, as well as panelled doors set in architraves.
