Description

This building is a stables and storehouse located 10 metres north of Cleatham House Farmhouse, constructed between 1800 and 1820, with minor alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is likely designed by William Fowler of Winterton. The structure is made of local red brick faced with coursed limestone rubble and has brick dressings, with some areas rendered. The roof is covered with pantiles.

The building has a rectangular plan featuring a central carriage entrance flanked by stables. The west front is three storeys high and consists of five symmetrical bays, with quoins at the corners. It has a pair of plank doors with strap hinges set in a brick surround, topped by a rendered segmental arch. Small-paned windows with iron glazing bars are located in blocked doorways, also with rendered segmental-headed surrounds. The first and second floors feature hatches with segmental brick arches and plank doors; the central hatch on the second floor includes pigeon holes at the base. A cogged brick eaves cornice runs along the top, and the roof is hipped.

Inside, the building retains its original layout, with stables on the ground floor, beamed ceilings, and chamfered oak columns. The king-post roof features raking struts and pegged butt-purlins, and it houses large wooden wheels for a rope hoist.
