Description
Mount Pleasant Farmhouse and the adjoining flanking walls date from the late 18th century and were built for William Richardson, with later alterations in the 19th and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with red brick dressings and features a slate roof with yellow brick stacks. The building has a double-pile plan and is two storeys high with five symmetrical bays.
A central projecting porch, finished in stucco, has stone steps leading to a glazed door with an overlight set in a recessed surround beneath a moulded cornice. The porch is flanked by canted bay windows that contain sashes with glazing bars, along with 8-pane sashes in flush wooden architraves. The first floor features 12-pane flush sashes, all of which are adorned with stucco cambered arches, cills, and brick surrounds. The eaves board is plain, and there is a late 19th-century hipped roof with axial stacks.
The flanking walls at the rear of the left and right returns are also made of coursed limestone rubble with brick dressings and ashlar coping. Each wall has five symmetrical bays, featuring alternating narrow and wide round-headed recesses. There is one narrow opening on the left with a plank door, while three other openings are blocked. The farmhouse stands out as a prominent feature in the landscape, although the interior holds no special interest.
