Description

This drinking fountain, built in 1874 for Sir John Astley, features a central arch with vermiculated ashlar piers and jambs, while the rest is made of rock-faced ashlar with smooth ashlar dressings. It is approximately 5 metres wide and 3 metres high, built into the roadside. The central pointed niche has projecting jambs and a keyed arch, which holds an iron spout along with a carved ashlar basin and drain. Above the niche is a pointed arched wall with moulded coping that ramps down to the end piers, which have corniced caps. The fountain is in working order.
