Description

A group of barns, stables, and adjoining ranges dating to the early 19th century, located approximately 60 metres north of Sandtoft Grange Farmhouse. The buildings are constructed of brown brick with pantile roofs, arranged in a U-shape around a foldyard. The west range is a two-story, four-bay barn with a single-story stable range attached to the south. The west-facing side of the barn has a segmental-arched entrance with double board doors in the fourth bay, alongside three arrow-shaped breathers. A single board hatch sits above, flanked by diamond-shaped breathers, and the building has a cogged brick eaves cornice and a hipped roof. The adjacent stable range features a board door in the center, with a later wide opening to the right containing board doors under a timber lintel; the roof is hipped to the right. A waggon entrance with a segmental-headed door above has been inserted into the north gable end of the stable range. The east side of the barn has a pair of segmental-headed doors, slit breathers at ground and first-floor levels, and a series of hatches. The south range consists of single-story stables with a two-story, three-bay stable/granary to the right. The south side of the stable range has four board doors, including an inner pair beneath segmental arches, and three windows – one above a board door, one with a board door, and one glazed with two lights and a vertical glazing bar. The stable/granary has a rebuilt ground-floor front with a central board door flanked by a glazed hatch and a waggon entrance, all under a timber lintel. The first floor has a central board door flanked by blind circular panels. The north side has board doors flanked by ventilator hatches. The east range is two stories high and nine bays wide, with a blocked waggon entrance, board doors, and hatches on its east side. Above, alternating diamond-shaped breathers and rectangular pitching hatches with board doors are present. The west side, facing the foldyard, is mostly obscured by 20th-century farm buildings. These buildings form part of an early 19th-century farm complex.
