TA 2909 NW CLEETHORPES LOVETT STREET (west side) 4/13 Gateway, walls and railings to Barcroft Junior School along Lovett Street frontage

Gateway, walls and railings. 1896 by Croft and Bentley of Grimsby, architects, and Henry Marrows, builder, for Cleethorpes School Board. C20 coping to lower section. Red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone ashlar dressings to piers, ashlar and concrete coping to walls, wrought iron gates and railings. Main double gate and single gate to left, flanked by walls and railings, with plain wall to left. Gatepiers and outer end piers have ashlar bands for hinge mounts, moulded ashlar cornices and coping with semi-circular faces to each side. C20 double gate; original gate to left with dog bars, scrollwork and finials. Half-height walls with concrete coping, and railings with plain bars and panels with scrolled lyre motifs, some with raking struts to rear buttresses. Tall ashlar-coped wall to left.
