Gateway, Walls and Railings to Barcroft Junior School Along Lovett Street Frontage

The gateway, walls, and railings to Barcroft Junior School along the Lovett Street frontage were built in 1896 by architects Croft and Bentley from Grimsby, with construction by builder Henry Marrows for the Cleethorpes School Board. The structure features red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone ashlar dressings on the piers, and has 20th-century coping on the lower section. The design includes wrought iron gates and railings, with a main double gate and a single gate to the left, both flanked by walls and railings, and a plain wall to the left. The gatepiers and outer end piers have ashlar bands for hinge mounts, along with moulded ashlar cornices and coping that have semi-circular faces on each side. The 20th-century double gate is accompanied by the original gate to the left, which includes dog bars, scrollwork, and finials. The walls are half-height with concrete coping, and the railings feature plain bars and panels with scrolled lyre motifs, some supported by raking struts to rear buttresses. A tall wall with ashlar coping is located to the left.
