Description
The garden wall at Fairlawn, located on Pelham Road in Grimsby, was built in 1885 and has undergone some later alterations. It is constructed of red brick with moulded brick details and extends along the Pelham Road frontage, curving around into Bargate.
The entrance to Pelham Road features square piers with chamfered plinths, relief panels, and moulded caps with pediments. There are wooden gateposts that support a wrought-iron overthrow, which has a 20th-century school notice attached. The flanking wall has a chamfered lower section and a balustraded top section, characterized by squat square-section balusters with scrolled heads, square piers with panelled fronts, and scrolled brackets on each side, topped with a moulded rail. Some sections of the balustrading have been replaced with 20th-century brickwork.
This garden wall is included for its group value with Fairlawn.
