Description

The cross base, located approximately 10 metres south of the church of St James in Grimsby, is a Grade II listed structure. It is made of limestone ashlar and features a square-section plinth with arcading of trefoiled arches and pierced spandrels. This supports a weathered octagonal cross-base, which has a square-section cross-shaft composed of four engaged columns made from four irregularly sized sections. At the top, there is a block of stone with plain capitals that support a square cap, which may be a later addition, and this is topped by a modern lead cap.
