Description
The gatehouse to Trinity House, located on Prince's Dock Street in Kingston upon Hull, was built in 1842 and designed by William Foale of Hull. This structure is made of painted ashlar and is in the Classical Revival style. It features a plinth, entablature, and a stepped blocking course. The gatehouse is two storeys tall and has three bays.
The central recess is framed by square Doric pilasters and includes a moulded round-arched carriage entrance with a dated keystone that displays the arms of Trinity House. This entrance is flanked by giant Ionic columns in antis. On either side of the entrance, there is a single plain sash window on each floor. Under the archway, there are a pair of concave-topped wrought-iron gates leading into a three-bay cross vaulted passage.
On either side of the passage, there is a round-headed door, with the left door being blocked and featuring a fanlight. Above each door, there is a round-headed glazing bar sash. The gatehouse is topped with an elaborate cross-shaped bracket that carries a central lantern.
