Description

The Queen Victoria statue and public toilets are located in Queen Victoria Square, Kingston upon Hull. The statue, created by C. Fehr, was installed in 1903 and features a larger than life-size standing bronze figure of Queen Victoria in Imperial robes. It is set on a rectangular Portland stone pedestal that has a cornice and rusticated coved corners. The pedestal includes relief panels and inscriptions, with larger than life-size allegorical female figures on pedestals at the north and south sides, connected to the main pedestal by a moulded string course. The base is a double chamfered plinth with a stepped design.

The public toilets, constructed around 1925 and restored in 1989, are made of grey granite and have an elliptical plan, primarily situated below ground. The central platform supports the statue and features a corniced balustrade with chamfered coping, divided into four sections. Each section ends with panelled rectangular pedestals topped with cast-iron latticework globe lamps. Between the pedestals, there is a plain low wall with an opening leading to steps, and curved steps provide access to the central platform. The interior of the toilets retains original earthenware stalls, cisterns, and cubicles in the Gents section.
