Description
Beverley High School, originally known as St Mary's School, was built in 1875 and designed by architects J B and W Atkinson of York. This Gothic style building is constructed of red brick with stone dressings and features a Welsh slate roof.
On the right side, there is a broad gabled one-storey wing that includes a ten-light mullion and transom window made of stone, which has cusped-headed upper lights and a rectangular drip moulding. Above this, there is a bell-holder. The central section features a six-light oriel window adorned with chevron ornamentation, along with an arched doorway that has a panelled door beneath a pentice roof.
The left wing has a half-hipped gable and contains a plain six-light mullion and transom window with a rectangular drip moulding. The ground floor has a stone pentice and includes three and two-hung sash windows with cusped stone heads. A pointed arch doorway is set back in this section.
