Description

The stable block to the north of Wassand Hall is a stable building with coach houses, dating from around 1820, with some minor alterations made in the 20th century. It was likely designed by Thomas Cundy for the Reverend Charles Constable. The structure is built of white brick with ashlar dressings and features shallow pitched hipped roofs with overhanging eaves. The east wing is topped by a square cupola with a clock, and it is flanked by chimney stacks and ventilators. The building has a brick plinth and an eaves band, arranged in a rectangular courtyard plan.

The two-storey range to the east has single-storey wings to the north and south, along with a wall that includes gate piers to the west. The west range has a courtyard facade with five windows and a slightly projecting center. There is a central doorway with a plank door and overlight, flanked by pairs of segment-headed carriage doorways with double plank doors that have been altered below. Above this, there is a central tripartite casement window flanked by two similar boarded windows.

The stable wing to the north features a central triple-arched loggia entrance supported by two circular brick columns, flanked by two glazing bar sashes and single blind doorways beyond. The similar south wing has had two garage doors inserted. Inside, the stable block retains its original horse boxes and other fittings.
