Description

The Old Rectory is a house dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, likely with earlier origins. It features a late 19th century cross wing to the left and later extensions to the rear. The original section is constructed of red brick, which is colour-washed and rendered on the right, topped with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys and three bays.

On the ground floor, there is a boarded door in an entrance lobby with a basket arch, flanked by 8-pane sash windows with glazing bars. To the right, there are 16-pane replacement windows. The first floor has a 16-pane sash window with a sill above the door, a central sash window with glazing bars, and another 16-pane sash window to the right. A modillion brick eaves cornice is present, along with roof dormers featuring 4-pane sashes, external end stacks, and raised gables to the right.

The late 19th century wing to the left has a ground floor with a central 16-pane sash window flanked by 8-pane sashes, all under segmental brick arches. The first floor has similar windows. The eaves overhang on shaped brackets and there is an axial stack.

Inside, few original features remain, but the entrance hall has heavy square joists supporting the room above and a 19th or early 20th century fireplace that incorporates some reused 17th century carved oak panels with Latin inscriptions.
