Description
Marton Hall School, built in 1672, is a two-storey brick building with a hipped slate roof and three modern dormers. It features a moulded string course between the storeys and a window arrangement of two-one-two, with the centre section projecting forward. The windows have moulded surrounds and no glazing bars, with a band above the first-floor windows. The building has rusticated stone quoins and is painted. The late 18th-century entrance is notable for its engaged Doric columns, flanking pilasters, and a full entablature, topped with an open pediment and a wide segmental fanlight that includes Gothic tracery. Inside, there is a fine late 17th-century staircase and ceiling.
