Description

The gates and gate piers in the stable yard at Hotham Hall date from the early 18th century. They feature wrought-iron gates and ashlar gate piers. The gate piers are cruciform in shape and stand approximately 4 metres tall. They are rusticated and have entablatures with fielded-panelled pilasters on each side, a plain base, and a moulded cornice topped with urns. The gates consist of plain bars and dog bars, with a central horizontal spiral motif and a central vertical spiral motif above. An elaborate overthrow completes the design.
