Description

The statue of Mercury is located in the water garden approximately 15 metres east of Burton Agnes Hall. It is a garden statue, likely from the mid 18th century, featuring an ashlar plinth that supports a lead statue. The plinth is square in shape, with a moulded base and cornice, which has been partly re-cut. The statue depicts a winged figure of Mercury standing on his left leg and holding a caduceus in his raised right hand. The entire statue stands at approximately 2 metres high and is part of a group of 18th-century statues in the gardens.
