Description

This is a late 18th-century house located on the east side of Hailgate in Howden. The house is constructed of stuccoed brick with a pantile roof. It is a two-storey, two-bay building with a central-hallway entry. A stone plinth runs along the base. The front features a six-panel door with glazed panels beneath a multi-paned overlight, all contained within a reeded doorcase with brackets supporting a cornice and panelled reveals. Throughout the house, there are sash windows with glazing bars and stone sills. A first-floor band is present, and a plain coped parapet tops the facade. The gable copings have been rebuilt, and there are end stacks. Inside, the house features an open-string staircase with column-on-vase balusters and square-knop newels, along with six-panel doors. The building is included on the list for its group value.
