Description
Warton's Almshouses, rebuilt in 1774 by Sir Michael Warton, is a two-storey building constructed of red brick with a plain tile roof featuring moulded stone copings on the gable ends. The structure has a boldly moulded brick cornice and displays a Norwich Union Insurance sign. It sits on a plinth and has seven sliding sash windows with glazing bars, along with two smaller intermediate windows on each floor that are symmetrically placed. The gauged brick heads above the windows are stuccoed on the ground floor, which includes a rusticated head above the main doorway. The entrance features a four-panel door, with the upper panels being glazed and the lower panels louvred. Wrought iron guard rails are present at the steps, and there is a two-storey wing at the rear.
